An Exciting New Addition in Montecito

2014 was a wildly successful year for Studio William Hefner and marked the upswing in more contemporary work. With increased business and continued growth, the company will be opening a second office to cater to the already existing clientele in the Santa Barbara area of Montecito.

Over the Summer of 2014, with many trips back and forth from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara to oversee the construction of our family home, we found the perfect space to transform into Studio William Hefner. Previously a gym, this free standing building had the right foundation to create the atmosphere we desire. Approximately 1500 square feet with open light space, in the lower village of Montecito, this is where we will soon be expanding our team of architects, landscapers and designers. Still under construction we are hoping to open our doors by the end of February.

Q: Who are the Architects both alive and departed, that you admire?

A: I’d have to say Jean Louis Denoit and Peter Marino, both alive.

Q: How did your experience in Greece influence your career ?

A: Greece is where I truly learned the value between a structure and it’s landscape. Landscape plays a significant role in the process of creating a structure and the Greeks got it.

Q: What’s one piece of advise you would give someone headed in your career path?

A: Only undertake it if you absolutely love it, otherwise it’s too much work to not be satisfied.

Q: Is there a particular style of home you prefer to work on?

A: No. I love variety. However, clients that have properties in the hills with views are always exciting to work on. ~William Hefner

Mandeville Canyon Residence

The architectural theme established was based on a theoretical “Grand Old Ranch House” (such as one might hope to discover tucked back behind a cluster of old oak trees) with an ample infusion of the laid-back elegance of the Hamptons. The materials for the house consist of a ledger stone base and bluestone paving with painted wood shakes for siding, and a heavy shake roof. Long white-washed porches from which to view the expansive lawns consistent with our theme provided shade and structure.
